A friend of mine visited the Porsche dealership today. They have on display a 2015 918 Spider. Yes, that is a $1,000,000 markup....
It appears this is car has a Weissach package. I found another being advertised (used!) with a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Nice to know that at least one GM dealer that lost their franchises in the bankruptcy was able to pick up a new brand.

Crack pipe. All day, every day.

And we thought that Hellcat markup business was crazy.

What does it mean to reflect market conditions? Barely anyone can afford it, so to reflect that, they make it more expensive?

hellcats, 4C's, hell even the new miata will probably see it.

Probably, this is a desirable car so because of that we're gonna jack the price by $1MM
![]() 02/28/2015 at 00:48 |

But why? Hypothetically, let's say I could afford this car several times over, no problem. Couldn't I just walk into any Porsche dealer and order one? Wouldn't you insist on custom ordering anything with a $950k msrp?

Even if you ordered one, it would probably come with a similar dealer markup.
In short, because they can.

I'm just going to stop worrying about it and start saving for a nice used C5.

Which one was it?

The 918 is sold out so they are using that to their advantage.

The 918 is sold out so you can't order them. Also, dealer markups occur on a dealership by dealership basis. Not all of them do it.

That at least makes some amount of sense. Limited commodities usually facilitate markup, though 205% seems extreme in any case. Do you know how many units they're producing?

Oh I'm not defending them, I'm just clarifying the situation.
They're building 918 918s.

Yeah I didn't think you were siding with the dealers, I was just curious as to the production run. Nine hundred-eighteen 918's, how original. Are there really a thousand people out there clamoring for a hybrid hypercar? It just doesn't seem very 'limited.' Not to bash Porsche; the 918 is technically amazing, even to my poorly refined sensibilities.

I guess so and I agree that the production is quite high. By comparison, McLaren will only make 375 P1s and Ferrari will only make 399 LaFerraris. The markup is unfortunately even worse on the LaFerrari as you can't get a used one for less than $3 million.

Car dealerships are becoming eBay. And dealerships wonder why we hate them

It surprises me and might just be a ploy. They were begging people to buy these a little while ago because they couldn't sell out the US allocation.

but with $750 savings in fuel costs over 5 years, you'll make up that sum in no time!

Why and how is this allowed? I understand maybe a few hundred dollars if it was a used car that had a following as used prices are pretty much whatever the person wants to pay or there is a long waiting list and someone higher on the list sells their place and walks away with the profit but on a new MSRP price at a franchise/dealership is just price gouging.
